care and cleaning after your piercing
for proper healing and satisfaction with your newly pierced ears, follow these easy
cleaning instructions.
please note:
many of the problems arising from ear piercing result from poor care after the piercing.
 • cleanse the piercing twice a day. be sure to cleanse especially after shampooing,
swimming or exercising.
• use our specially formulated ear care antiseptic when cleansing. you may use
isopropyl alcohol as an alternative temporary substitution for ear care antiseptic.
• always cleanse hands prior to touching your ears.
• use a clean cotton swab to apply the ear care antiseptic. push the earring gently
forward and backward, swabbing between your ear and the earring.
• rotate the earring twice daily to prevent it from adhering to the ear.
• avoid touching your ears except when cleaning.
• cover your ears when using hair spray or perfume.
• return for a free follow up visit in 4 weeks or sooner if you have any questions
or concerns.
• be careful that earrings don't get caught when brushing your hair or pulling clothes
over your head. take extra care when exercising or playing sports.
• do not remove earrings before the specified time:
 earlobe piercing: keep earrings in for 4 to 6 weeks.
 cartilage piercing: keep earrings in for 8 to 12 weeks.

reactions
proper daily aftercare should clear up any irritation. pain, redness or swelling that
exists more than 24 hours after the piercing is not a normal result of ear piercing.
persistent or recurrent redness or swelling may indicate that your body may not
tolerate a foreign object in the skin. you may be unable to wear pierced earrings.
consult a physician.

earlobe: in many cases, reviewing and observing proper aftercare procedures will
clear up any irritation in the earlobe.

cartilage: if redness or swelling in a cartilage piercing exists more than 24 hours after
the piercing, immediately remove the earring, continue to cleanse the ear, and consult
a physician.

the safety clutch
to make sure the safety clutch is securely in place use your thumb and forefinger to push
and lock the clutch. this design assures a comfortable loose fit and covers the sharp point
at the end of the earring post.

hey, mom and dad!
piercing pagoda is pleased to offer our professional ear piercing service for children two
months and older who have received their first DPT inoculation and are accompanied
by an identified parent or legal guardian. if your child becomes upset or unsettled, we will
suspend the ear piercing immediately. at that time, you will be asked to consider returning when your child is able to comfortably continue with the ear piercing procedure.

we recommend
to help alleviate anxiety at the time of piercing: for all children who are two months and
up, we strongly recommend having both ears pierced at the same time by two piercing
professionals. many of our locations have two sales associates on hand to pierce both
ears simultaneously.
exception: some infants may require having their ears pierced one at a time, due to
their inability to hold their head erect for an accurate piercing of both ears.

infant care and cleaning
we want you to know that the care of your infant's pierced ears is very important to us
here at piercing pagoda. the earrings should remain in your infant's ears at all times for
at least 6 - 8 months so that the piercing will not close overnight. please follow our
instructions for care and cleaning. we'll be seeing you in 4 weeks for your free follow
up visit!
